How the viewer works
The archive is opened and read entirely in your browser. PinMy does not upload, store or send your BCF data anywhere. The viewer reads BCF XML 2.0 and 2.1 topics, comments, viewpoints, selected IFC components and saved images.
What is a BCF file?
BCF (BIM Collaboration Format) is an open buildingSMART standard for exchanging issues between BIM tools. A .bcfzip archive carries the conversation about a model rather than the model itself, which keeps it small enough to email and readable by any tool that supports the format.
- Topics — the issue itself: title, description, status, priority, assignee, labels and dates.
- Comments — the discussion recorded against each topic over time.
- Viewpoints and snapshots — the saved camera position and the image captured with it.
- Selected IFC components — the GUIDs of the model elements an issue refers to.
- Document references — links to related drawings or files.
Supported files and limits
- Open BCF XML 2.0 / 2.1 archives with the .bcfzip, .bcf or .zip extension.
- Maximum archive size: 100 MB. The viewer reads issues, comments, viewpoints, selected IFC components and saved images.
- Your file stays in this browser. The viewer does not edit BCF data or open the linked IFC model.
Frequently asked questions
Which files can I open?
BCF XML 2.0 and 2.1 archives with the .bcfzip, .bcf or .zip extension.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser.
What will be printed?
Exactly the issues currently shown after your search, filters and sort order. Each issue starts on a new printed page.
Do I need Revit, Solibri or Navisworks to open a BCF file?
No. The viewer runs in any modern browser, so you can read a BCF file without a BIM licence, a plugin or an install.
What is the difference between BCF and IFC?
BCF carries the issues — topics, comments, viewpoints and snapshots. IFC carries the model geometry. This viewer reads BCF only; it does not open the IFC model a BCF file refers to.
Can I save the selection as a PDF?
Yes. Print the current selection and choose "Save as PDF" in your browser's print dialog. The PDF is produced by your browser — nothing is generated on or uploaded to a server.
Does this edit BCF files or import them into PinMy?
No. The viewer is read-only, and the PinMy app does not import BCF files. It is a standalone tool for reading and printing an existing BCF archive.
