The purple outline is the room. Dark tiles are cut on site.

Comparison only: it checks other patterns, rotations and start modes with the same inputs. It does not change the plan above.

How to use the tile layout calculator

  1. Step 1

    Enter the surface

Add the finished width and length in millimetres.

  2. Step 2

    Set the tile and joint

Choose the tile or paver size, joint and waste allowance.

  3. Step 3

    Compare layouts

Switch pattern or rotation and use the recommended balanced start.

How the layout works

The calculator tests possible start offsets and selects the one with the widest smallest edge piece. Material is estimated from surface area plus your allowance; the drawing is a planning aid, not a cutting schedule for irregular rooms.

Scope and limits

For rectangular surfaces and rectangular tiles or pavers in millimetres. Diagonal is a visual planning preview; openings, slopes, borders and structural movement joints need a site-specific setting out.

This is a geometric layout, not a setting-out plan. It excludes L-shaped rooms, openings and thresholds, herringbone or modular patterns, drains, skirting, furniture, borders and movement-joint design; the waste figure is not a substitute for an installer’s allowance.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the recommended start not at the wall?+

A centred start can split the remainder between two edges, avoiding a fragile narrow strip on one wall.

Does this replace a site setting-out plan?+

No. Check actual room dimensions, movement joints, thresholds and manufacturer guidance before cutting.

Pin the plan, photo or issue to the exact place on site so the crew and reviewer see the same decision.
